"In 1999-2000 I lost both of my parents and my 100-year old grandmother. I was handed the job of sole caregiver for all of them when they became ill. At the time, I was a manager for a national company with complex responsibilities to both my staff and my clients. That meant that I was not available to choose where to be, but rather torn all the time, knowing that I wanted to be the support and advocate for each of my family members, but responsible to my employer as well. With each of their illnesses, I found myself doing everything from multiple daily visits to hospitals, rehab facilities and eventually nursing homes, to coordination with various doctors, monitoring medications, dealing with insurance - it was a nightmare!

There was no plan. I was constantly in reactionary mode and, to this day, I don't know how I survived that ordeal. I knew that there had to be a better way. I vowed that no one I knew would ever have to endure the human indignities I had witnessed, if given the choice."
